Before approving gift box flocking lining for production or shipment, verify its dimensional accuracy, edge position, color uniformity, shedding resistance, and overall surface quality. For jewelry packaging, anti-tarnish performance should also be included in the inspection plan.

Essential Testing Areas

A complete evaluation should examine how the lining fits the finished box, whether it produces an unwanted odor when enclosed, and whether its surface remains visually and physically consistent across the production batch.

  • Dimensional fit: Compare the lining, inserts, folds, seams, and die-cut profiles with the approved box dimensions. Precision die-cut components can be manufactured to a tolerance of plus or minus 0.1 millimeters.
  • Enclosed-box odor: Test the finished gift box with the lining installed instead of relying only on an exposed fabric swatch. Water-based acrylic adhesives, residual moisture, volatile organic acids, and other processing chemicals may influence the odor inside closed packaging.
  • Surface consistency: Combine visual inspection with spectrophotometer readings, pile adhesion checks, abrasion testing, and verification that the flock fibers follow a consistent direction. How to Inspect Fit and Construction

Begin with the approved box structure and the specified finished lining dimensions. The lining should be checked after cutting, backing, lamination, embossing, or any other required finishing process because these steps can change its final shape.

Install the lining in the actual gift box and inspect its contact with corners, curves, recessed sections, inserts, and product holders. It should sit flat and remain properly aligned. Pay particular attention to raised edges, wrinkles, excessive tension, exposed substrate, uneven seams, and interference with the lid, hinges, cushions, or interior supports.

Self-Adhesive Lining Checks

Self-adhesive flocking lining requires two separate evaluations: accurate placement and reliable bonding. Mingqian specifies a peel strength of at least 2 newtons per 25 millimeters for self-adhesive products. Inspect the backing layer independently from the flocked face. A compliant surface fabric does not automatically confirm that the adhesive or backing system meets the required material and performance standards.

Odor and Surface Verification

For odor testing, close the completed gift box with the lining installed and evaluate it after a controlled conditioning period. This approach reflects the actual environment in which the packaging will be stored and shipped. Record the odor intensity and note whether it changes after ventilation or extended enclosure.

Surface inspection should cover color, pile direction, fiber coverage, loose fibers, stains, bonding uniformity, and resistance to rubbing. Use instrumental color measurement where batch-to-batch consistency is critical, and perform abrasion or pile adhesion tests when the lining will experience repeated contact with products or packaging components.

A documented inspection plan that combines dimensional, chemical, visual, and functional checks helps confirm that gift box flocking lining is suitable for its intended use before mass production or shipment.
